Women win Division 1 Provincial Championship!
The Saracens are so proud to see Janna Slevinsky shining on Team Canada! Janna was a huge help to our women's team in 2015 when they won the AW1 Provincial Championship and continued to shine when she helped them with their AWP debut in 2017. Since then, she has moved to Ontario to work on a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy. After being scouted for team Canada in 2017 as a member of the Queen's varsity rugby program, she has quickly become recognized as one of the top talents in Canada. This past November Janna traveled with the Canadian Women's 15's side to play 3 test matches and one "A" game against England, Wales, and Scotland; finishing the tour with a 3-1 record. Janna not only started in all 3 test matches but played all 80 minutes of each match, even scoring the winning try against Scotland. Janna has since been nominated for Rugby Canada's Women's 15's player of the year for 2018!
When asked what her favourite part about the Saracens was, Janna replied: "I have two: the clubhouse and how it's more than just a rugby team and that we cheer for women's rugby after games"
The Rugby Canada awards will be taking place March 7th in Vancouver ahead of the Canada Sevens HSBC World Series Tournament. Good luck Janna!
Huge congratulations to Junior Saracens Cade A, Quinn B, and Tyler W, who were selected to play for the Calgary representative 7's team. The team participated in the Alberta Regional Championships U18 7's tournament, held in Edmonton at the end of January, competing against sides from Edmonton and Central Alberta.
The ARC 7's was a selection tournament, and the Saracens are proud to recognize Tyler for his selection to play for Team Alberta at the U18 7's Championship in Vancouver, held March 10 - 12. Tyler has been playing rugby with the Saracens for 6 years.
Quinn and Cade will also make the journey to Vancouver to play in the 7's tournament with the Kayak touring side. Both boys have been playing rugby with the Saracens for the past 8 years.
We would also like to recognize Jay Arrell, our U18 boy's coach, who was one of the coaches for the Calgary rep team. Jay will also be heading out to Vancouver as a coach with the Kayak side.
Great work, lads! The Saracens are proud of your accomplishments, and excited to have you represent us on the pitch in Vancouver!!
