This past Sunday, while most of us were still in bed sleeping off the effects of Saturday's rugby matches and celebrations, three Saracen women took their athleticism to the next level by participating in the Scotiabank Half and Full Marathons!
Marissa Ully and Heather Boersma are veterans of the women's program, each logging a full 80 minutes in Saturday's AWP match. Despite unfortunately-timed minor injuries, the ladies ran the half marathon on Sunday, finishing the 21.1 km with times of 2:06 and 2:01, respectively. Marissa, who plays at 10, is in her seventh year on the team. She is also a full-time student and the Director of the Junior Program. Even with so much on her plate, Marissa shows an unwavering dedication to excellence in all her pursuits. Heather, a leader in the forward pack, is in her third year on the team. As if it wasn't enough to be a star athlete, Heather has also been accepted into med school, and will be starting this July.
Finally, Janna Slevinsky saw some minutes in Friday night's SW1 match against the Titans, even doing a stint at front row, and then started at lock in Saturday's AWP match against her former team, St Albert. She followed that up by completing her first-ever marathon on Sunday, running 42.2 km in a time of 4:28. Janna was running to raise funds for equipment in the fitness center at Spinal Cord Injury Alberta. This ended a week of greatness for Janna, who also recently found out she has been accepted for her Masters at Queen's University in the fall.
Janna, Heather, and Marissa, you are all absolute legends and all-around amazing humans. We are so proud of your accomplishments!!
